Fake News

"NASA did not land a man on the moon"
"The world really is flat"
"Proof that Martians exist"
"What the Government does not want you to know"

Yes, you have seen these and many more. You see loads of these on Facebook for example.

In a way President Trump is actually right.

The internet has become the Ministry of Misinformation. The internet is full of mistakes, misinformation, malice, Chinese whispers and pornography. Fraudsters and trolls use the internet to hide their cruel and unlawful acts, simply because they can get away with it.

Take information you get on the internet with a pinch of salt. It is often inaccurate and out of date. Using a Search Engine does not guarantee that something you search for is in any way correct. Search Engines will always give you result where they bring up sites that have paid the most to be at the top of the search. You may find better results on a later page. In fact, the best result may never show. You get no guarantee of accuracy.

Next time you use a Search Engine take a look at the dates when the page results were created. Often you will find that, even on the first page, the results are several years old. It doesn't matter which Search Engine you use, the biggest are as guilty as the smallest.

Some people even believe that Google is the internet. It's just a web site like any other. They are just great at marketing themselves. Google is a commercial organisation which aims at making a profit.

Here is an example. If you search for the word Zipzap in Google you do not hit anything that mentions us until page 14

Even then, this is finding us on the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce site.

But if you use Bing then you find us on page 1.

Draw you own conclusions from this. Is the Google search putting people who pay before the real results?

We also hit page 1 on duckduckgo which does not track you or have sponsored entries.

And the World Wide Web is not the internet. It's just part of it. The internet is far larger.

If you are misled by something on the internet then there is virtually no recourse.

Be warned and keep safe. Make up you own mind and base your judgement on common sense. If it seems too good to be true then it is probably the case.
